What an ECU remap actually does

The ECU, or engine control unit, is the computer that decides how much fuel your engine gets, how much boost it runs and when it fires. From the factory that software has to suit many countries, many fuel qualities and many owners at once, so there is usually room to improve it for one vehicle and one driver. A remap replaces it with software written for your engine and the way you use it. Fuelling, boost and timing are adjusted so the vehicle pulls cleaner, responds sooner and works less hard to do the same job. Nothing is cut, drilled or bolted on. The change is in the software.

How a mobile remap works

On the day we come to you, connect to the vehicle, read and save the original ECU file, then write the new one. We go through the result with you before we leave, and if you ever want the standard software back, we still have your original file on record.

Is an ECU remap safe for my engine?
A remap works within the mechanical limits of your engine and gearbox. We read your existing file, write the changes for your specific engine and the fuel it runs on, and check the vehicle before and after. Nothing is fitted, cut or removed. It is software. If a vehicle is not in a healthy enough condition to be remapped, we will tell you that rather than tune around a problem.
Will a remap affect my warranty or service plan?
We will be straight with you. A remap changes software the manufacturer installed, so it can affect a warranty or a service plan claim, especially on a newer vehicle. We will not tell you it is invisible. If your vehicle is still covered, speak to us and to your dealer first, then decide with the facts. Your original file is saved, so the standard software can be put back.
How long does it take?
Most vehicles are done in a single visit at your home or workplace, so you can carry on with your day while we work. Timing depends on the make and model, so tell Chris what you drive and we will tell you what to expect before you commit to a slot.
Can the remap be reversed?
Yes. Before we write anything, we read and save the original ECU file from your vehicle. If you sell the car, take it in for a dealer service, or simply decide you prefer the standard software, we can put your original file back.
