What chip tuning means today

The word chip goes back to when a tuner had to open the ECU and swap a physical memory chip. Modern vehicles do not work that way. Your engine is run by software, and that software is what Saftrade rewrites. Chris connects to the ECU in your vehicle, reads the file that is on it, and writes a map built around your engine. Nothing is bolted on, nothing plugs into the wiring, and there is no box to hide under the dash or pull out again when you sell. Is chip tuning safe for my engine?
The map is written to work within the safe operating limits of your engine, and the vehicle is checked before anything is written. If there is an existing problem, a tired turbo, a fuel issue or a fault sitting in the system, Chris will tell you and it gets sorted first. Software written for your specific engine behaves very differently to a generic file loaded onto anything with four wheels.
Will chip tuning affect my warranty or motor plan?
We will be straight with you here. A remap changes the manufacturer's software, and a dealer can detect that. If your vehicle is still under a manufacturer warranty or a motor plan, assume they may decline a related claim. Your original file is saved and can be written back, but we cannot promise how any dealer will treat your vehicle. Talk to Chris about your situation before you book.
Can the tuning be reversed?
Yes. Before Chris writes anything, he reads the file that is on your ECU and saves it. If you want to go back to the original software, for a dealer service, a resale or any other reason, that saved file can be written back to the ECU.
How long does it take?
It is a single visit. The vehicle stays where it is, you do not drop it off and you do not collect it later. The exact time on site depends on the vehicle and its ECU, and Chris will tell you what to expect for your make and model when you call.
Do you really come to me?
Yes, that is the standard way Saftrade works. Chris comes to your home, your office or your business premises anywhere in Gauteng with everything needed to do the job on site. Your vehicle does not go into a workshop and you do not have to arrange a lift.
